This may sound strange, but amber does not actually exist in perfumery. Amber fragrances are built around a warm, rich scent accord rather than a single ingredient. Labdanum, benzoin, vanilla and other resins are often used to create the characteristic depth and lustre. The result can be sweet and enveloping, but amber can also be dry, smoky or resinous. It often lends a perfume a sense of warmth and sensuality, as if a golden glow were descending upon the skin.
