The chypre family is a great classic in perfumery, named after the 1917 fragrance Chypre de Coty. Traditionally, it creates an intriguing contrast between fresh citrus notes, florals and deeper, earthy notes such as patchouli, labdanum and oakmoss. A chypre is multi-layered, sophisticated and elegant. Modern chypre fragrances retain that elegance but add a contemporary twist by adding other notes, like fruits or aquatics. Without exception, they are stylish and discreetly luxurious, without ever being overpowering.
