Musc des Sables is a rare combination of two of the most expensive ingredients in perfumery: orris (the root of iris) and ambergris.
Ambergris is a hard waxy product from the intestines of sperm whales. Lumps of ambergris float on the sea where they are sometimes picked up by fishermen, or wash up sporadically on beaches.
In contemporary, even luxury perfumes, mostly synthetic versions are used due to its price and scarcity, but the ambergris in Musc des Sables is tinctured from authentic ambre gris (grey amber) through a 6-month process done specifically for Les Indémodables at its founders’ lab. Anyone who’s smelled this classical perfume ingredient in its authentic form in vintage formulas will recognize it here as the real deal for its earthy, animalic and even tobacco-like warmth that leaves its trace for hours.
